I’m guessing this series is about the items that people leave behind in their old dwellings.
Comment by George Crow December 8, 2008 @ 7:03 pmThe childhood swing, the animal painting… I actually photographed some olive oil left in a kitchen cupboard when I moved into a new apartment.
I think it’s a great idea for a series.
I forgot to mention the vignette effect… that helps focus the viewer on the items, and makes the images seem less plain.
What’s your reason for adding it?
Comment by George Crow December 8, 2008 @ 7:05 pmThe concept for your images is really intriguing. They cause you to wonder why these things are no longer valuable to their previous owner. I am also wondering what the reasoning is for the vignette effect. Do you intend to evoke a sense of memory?
Comment by Candace December 9, 2008 @ 3:18 pmYou have no idea how that empty swing speaks to me. As an army brat, we left behind many swings just like this one as we moved about the world with my father. I like the concept of the things left behind but I don’t see them items as no longer wanted but that they serve as a reminder to those that come after that someone was here before. I don’t understand the vignetting but I guess it does work for you.
Comment by Tracy Drew Johnson November 21, 2009 @ 2:29 amYour series looks promising. I think that the tones in the colors is your most effective element to get your concept across. I think your second photo is stronger as a stand alone piece because the first, if alone, can be confusing as to what the concept is without a title.
