Series that has 3 images thus far with intentions of expanding.

This is a series of just bodyscapes at the moment but I have intentions to expand to a broader area than just nude bodyscapes for this particular series. My intention was to have the viewer focus on the lines that bodies create when joined in a puzzle piece sort of fashion. When I expand this series, at the very least I intend to focus on the joining of hands, heads and feet. Later on I want to find a way to reshoot these photographs I am presenting right now so that a bed is not cutting into the figures in the photographs.

These are really beautiful body landscapes. When you reshoot, you may want to consider having them lay on a table top with a black cloth over it. That way you could pull out in the shot and have an ample amount of black space above and below the bodies without the issue of them “sinking” into the bed. It would also be interesting to see these lit from only the right or only the left side. Overall, these were great ideas for joining bodies. Will it always be two figures? Will it always be female and male?

What would you think about them being lit from behind? It would bring a very ethereal view.. certainly. I do wonder if it is just lit from the right and from the left if the shadows would detract from the real point of the photos. I do have a tendency to really just do straight shots, not many “artsy” shots. I find beauty in things that are just natural and easy to see. It seems that it can get people thinking more about the presence of what is in the photo, instead of it being a photo. I would like to get more than just male and female images, it would just take me time to be comfortable with a new model :) . Thanks for your comment.

I agree with Jena. The images are beautiful but could use some more black space. I have always been intrigued by the lines formed by the human body and appreciate your images. The second one is very successful in showing the way the human body can fit with another, like a puzzle piece. I would raise the same questions Jena did as well – always two figures and always male and female? It might be interesting to have two separate shots, each of one of the individuals in their own shot and then put them together in the third. Does this make sense? Then the viewer can compare the lines of the single form with the lines formed by the piecing together of the bodies.

Yes that makes complete sense. I do wonder how I would present that afterwords in a gallery… Perhaps a grid? I would like to do more with more than just a male and a female from. I think that this piece probably became more personal to me because it was my boyfriend at the time. I knew his body well and adored it. The idea came when he was holding me one time and I was intrigued how our bodies fit and how it could be so comfortable when they do. I thank you for your comment and will definitely remember it for future shoots.

i think these photos are very interesting because they show the beauty of a human body as well as showing more of the “real” body that has hair all over it. You dont typically see a mans hairy body especially coupled with a smooth female form. I really like the idea!

Thank you! There was many comments on just the male and female form. Do you believe this piece should just be with 2 people, a male and a female in natural form? or should be mixed and matched with others? Or maybe several different series?

Comment by Holly

I think the images are especially interesting because you dont typically see a man covered in body hair. Especially since its juxtaposed with a beautiful female form. I think it just raises some interesting questions about body image and how its usually portrayed in the media.

Comment by Lynn Klas

I never even THOUGHT of the media in this piece. I find it so funny how things that you would never think would be brought up in your photographs leaks its way in. I think that I am getting many new ideas and ways to go with this project and it many just turn into many! Thanks for you time and ideas!

I really enjoy these photographs because they conjure up so many different discussions. At first they reminded me of an Adam & Eve theme, the natural man and women. But the more I looked at these photographs, the more I began to see landscapes created by the figures, especially in the top image. Combining that with the natural man and women, I read these images as a depiction of the natural landscape that we are a part of. Nice work, hope to see more!

I am not religious and didn’t pick up on the Adam and Eve portion! I think that it could bring a new element to the pictures. People did mention how it was more natural to see the hair and I believe that is were you are seeing it. I am glad to have put my work up here! So many different views of it!

absolutely beautiful, would love to see more..
really like the idea of bodies fitting together
like puzzle pieces. also i really enjoy seeing the
depiction of average body types and how
attractive they are in a very organic sense…
well done!

Comment by Jennifer Hirschmann

To be honest I wasn’t even thinking about how it was an “average” body type. I do see how it really does add to the contrast and I would really like to work more on that now. The contrast of human bodies through very basic things like body hair. It is intersting how a body seems so normal to you when you are with someone. The two models are of me and my bf at the time with a remote in a dorm room! I hope to get into a studio and do more.

The body scapes are very intriguing and well placed, the top image can read much different than the other. yeah the bottoms are dragging, maybe a hard surface such as a table top with a sheet? it may be uncomfortable but at least visually pleasing!

Comment by Kevin G

Thank you very much for your comment. I never thought about the two images reading differently in the way you are saying. There has been many comments on how the bed cuts into the pictures and I would really like to re shoot just because of that. The thing I am concerned about is trying to keep the curves of the lower person. While laying on a hard surface your body tends to flatten on it and it is difficult to try to change that. A pillow is not an option, it will just cause the same problem. Any ideas would be great! :)

Comment by Holly

I love this idea! I would consider finding a few more models and fitting them into the puzzle as well. more more more images, please? :)

Comment by Tracy

I’ll try it!!! I am thinking about even cutting up my photos and doing the whole puzzle piece thing! It could be a lot of fun! Thanks for your post!
