This narrative is about a woman that frequently goes to bars by herself to attract the attention of men. She does this because she is unhappy and alone. We were assigned to incorporate two texts with this project (one formal and one informal). The informal text that was paired with the images shown read, “She hid a smile on her lips that could light up cigarettes without a match.”

These landscapes are a metaphor for the unseen psychological and physical spaces I am presenting. The figure represents a longing for shelter. By using the dense, and rather claustrophobic forest settings I am offering an opportunity to find a place for meditation and contemplation. The point is not to recognize the location, but to be able to revel in a sense of relief and stillness these anonymous spaces offer. The images are simple tall trees and rock formations. But within, there is a sense of mystery, timelessness and even mystical elements.
Both images are from the project “Objects and Closeups”, which was made into a college art show. The idea of the project was to represent everyday simple objects, like indoor decorations, with a close-up view with the intention to bring out the beauty of their textures, colors and shapes.

With these I was trying to capture average objects with an interesting composition. My main goal in development was to make good quality prints that cover a full range of light and dark without being too contrasty. They are both stand-alone images.

The purpose of this assignment was to take an image that would be best viewed on a large scale. I set up a Lego scene and took the shot through a small window frame I made so that when the image is printed on a large scale and hung on the wall, it appears that you are looking out of an actual window but at an imaginary landscape.
