I used this battery-powered lightbulb in a previous photograph involving blurred motion. I wanted to experiment with light and shadows in a way that makes a vague statement about modern/smaller technology overshadowing the bigger objects in life. i.e the portable lightbulb evidently replacing the lamp that you cannot carry around so easily.

  1. Your statement about this piece reads almost exactly, which is successful. The quality of shadow implies that technology taking over “bigger objects” of life is a negative thing. If that is your intention, that is also successful. The issue that I see with this piece is that what I know of light bulbs is that that same bulb could probably fit in that lamp, so as far as new technologies it doesn’t formally say very much in terms of advancement. If you’re serious about this project I would look for a different symbol of new technologies to use.

  2. This is a very nice concept and the meaning behind it is very important. When it comes to executing it better, you may want to show more dramatically “technological” advances/replacements. Also, I would have liked to see the lighting coming from the battery powered light bulb over flash. Only use flash when absolutely needed or very intentional.
