Eight Images in the Series
The hand sculpture project grew out of an assignment to create an event for the camera that disappeared. The photos were to be not just a record of the event, but art. I asked a group of Beloit College faculty to create forms with their hands in late afternoon light. I had hesitated to bother people, professionals busy at the beginning of a term. But I stepped over my fear to ask for help. When I explained the project people were willing to participate. Still they were restrained at the beginning of the shoot. As the hour went on, when hesitation fell away and co-operation took over in the form of play, the images I saw in my lens grew richer. I found this project very challenging and in the end I felt the work was worth it. I am proud of the results.
